Today is Pentecost.  The Gospel and First Reading give us accounts that constitute the beginning of the preaching of Jesus Christ crucified, Jesus Christ risen.  In the peace that Jesus extends to his followers, and in the power of the Holy Spirit, a gathering of people like ourselves lets go of timidity and confusion and becomes courageous.  The power of Pentecost is our today - not just because we celebrate Pentecost but because we are people of Pentecost.  Through the centuries, the Holy Spirit guides the Church and makes us bold and unwavering in faith, prepared and capable of professing Jesus, Son of God, as Savior.

Fr. Berner will hear confessions after the 9:30 a.m. Mass on the 1st Sunday of the month.  Confession by appointment: call the Rectory 712-644-2535.

ATTENTION: Several people will be leaving the Parish Council and Finance Council in June as their terms have expired.  We need 3-4 people for each Council starting in August.  If you would like to become a member of either of these two Councils, please send your name and a brief paragraph about yourself to Sharon Solon, 15758 Sumac Road, Honey Creek, Iowa 51542.  Thanks for your consideration.

Annual Diocesan Appeal: 91 parishioners out of 245 have pledged to the Diocesan Appeal.  We have not yet met our goal!  A BIG "THANK YOU" to those who have pledged.  It is extremely important that all parishioners contribute to help us meet our goal.  These totals do include the parishioners that have sent their payment directly to the diocese.  There are forms in the back of the church and in the pews.  Upon completion of the forms, please send them to St. Patrick's or drop them into the collection basket so your contribution can be tracked.  Thank You.

Bishop Richard E. Pates invites everyone as part of the diocesan faith community to come to his installation ceremony as the ninth bishop of Des Moines.  The ceremony is May 29th at 2:00 p.m. at Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines.  Look for details in the May issue of the Catholic Mirror or on the diocesan website www.dmdiocese.org.

JOB OPPORTUNITY: We are in need of someone to do the maintenance work here at the church starting in June.  It is a 10 hour per week job.  There is a "job duty" list in the office.  Please apply in person.

We would like to say Thank You to Dave Kleveter for many years of service in our school/parish.  Dave, will be retiring in June, 2008.  He is willing to stay these next couple of weeks to train anyone that is interested in this paid position.  Please contact the Church office between 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. for more details.  Phone 642-2611.

Scripture Reflection
by Deacon Dave Lovell

Pentacost Sunday, often called the "Birthday of the Church".  Today the Holy Spirit came with power and peace.  Today we burst forth from hiding in the upper room and proclaim the Gospel to the world.  We are no longer afraid of what others will do to us.  To quote today's politicians: We have "found our voice!"  Today we proclaim the "Pascal Mystery".  By the Pascal Mystery we mean Christ's dying and rising.  We do this when we too proclaim "Christ has died, Christ has risen, Christ will come again!"

The Spirit also brings peace.  Not the peace the world gives which can vanish like an apparition, but the peace that only can come from God.  As we celebrate this great day in the Church, let us also pray that the Holy Spirit will descend upon us and bring us peace.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH!!!

Remember to say your prayers.
